NCBM Disaster Relief needs to update our files of possible Disaster Relief Operation Sites. When a disaster occurs it is usually too late to contact decision-makers in order to obtain permission to use a church facility to deliver assistance to survivors. We need to be prepared with this information before an event.
A Disaster Relief Operation Site is a church, association, or other facility where we set up for response. It usually includes but is not limited to a feeding unit, shower unit, recovery units and additional support equipment. In addition, we will need a place to house and feed volunteers. The Disaster Relief Operation Site becomes one of the hubs for NCBM disaster relief operations.
The sites are selected in various ways. Generally, NCBM decides the best place to set up. However, sometimes it is in consultation with The American Red Cross, The Salvation Army, NC Emergency Management or County Emergency Management or other disaster partners. We cannot guarantee that we will choose your site for every disaster that hits your area. We decide on a case-by-case basis.
Ideally, we need a facility that has a fellowship hall, kitchen, a family life center (would be nice but is not absolutely necessary), easy access along a major road, and with a large paved parking lot. It is not necessary to have all of the above but helpful depending on the scope of response. If you are willing to be considered as a Disaster Relief Operation Site, there is no guarantee you will actually be asked to be used as one, even if a disaster hits.
We maintain a list of possible Operation Sites so that when a disaster occurs we know which church facilities are available and we have the contact information for church leadership. If becoming a NCBM Disaster Relief Operation Site appeals to you, please obtain the necessary church authority and let us know by completing the attached form.
Please update your church’s information on the attachment and return it to our office by fax or email to Mary Mountz, Disaster Relief Project Assistant ([email protected]), as soon as possible.
If you would like to be a part of our Disaster Relief Ministry here in the Sandy Creek Association, please share the following information with us.
